Mary Ellen Grady joined Chesapeake Search Dogs in 2013. She is currently an Operational Flanker and an Operational K9 Handler with her K9s Tank and Echo. Mary Ellen holds NASAR SARTECH I, SARTECH II, K9 SARTECH II Area Search, NASAR K9 HRD Land IV, IPWDA HRD Water and IPWDA Basic Land certifications. In addition, Mary Ellen is an Amateur Radio Technician, is certified in Wilderness First Aid, and is an NRP Search Team Member. Mary Ellen lives in Anne Arundel County with her husband, two college-aged children, and their dogs Tank and Echo. Mary Ellen is employed as a Writer and Communications Strategist. In her spare time, she writes romantic suspense novels and enjoys spending time with her family. Tank is a King Shepherd who was accepted into the Chesapeake Search Dogs Puppy Program in 2013. Tank holds a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Certification and NASAR Canine SARTECH II Area Search certification. Although Tank previously held NASAR HRD Land IV certification and IPWDA HRD water certifications, as he approaches retirement he is currently only operational as a Wilderness Air Scent K9. Tank enjoys long walks, cheese, belly rubs, and playing keep away with his tug toy. Echo is a Border Collie who began training with the team in 2021 and achieved operational status in Human Remains Detection (HRD) with the team in 2022 Echo holds a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification, as well as NASAR HRD IV, IPWDA HRD Water, and IPWDA HRD Basic land. When not working, Echo loves her frisbees and chasing her balls. Kane is a Border Collie who began training with the team in 2024 and in training in Human Remains Detection (HRD).
SUNDAY, JULY 5, 2026 8:30am – 5:00pm
HANDLER’S CHOICE! (Working Sessions)
Mary Ellen will be working on topics decided by the participants. Working teams will be provided with a questionnaire upon registration. The information gathered will be provided to Mary Ellen in advance of the seminar to help to plan out the day.
Working teams need to be able to work unpaired odor. Handlers working dogs who are still on primary (food) or who must work with paired odor are welcome to audit.
WORKING TEAM (12 Slots available per day) – Cost per day will be as follows:
Member: $225
Non-Member: $250
AUDITORS (12 Slots available per day) – Cost per day will be as follows: $115
Lunch is included in the above price. No refunds unless a replacement is found for your slot. Credits will be issued for all removals or cancellations of club members and refunds will be issued to all non-members in the case of removals or cancellations. A $10 service fee will be withheld on all credits or refunds issued.
Registration opens:
Members – Wednesday, June 17 at 8am
Non-Members – Friday, June 19 at 8am
Priority for registration will be as follows:
1) Current instructors and 2026 trial chair.
2) Current ODTC K9 Nose Work students (one priority registration per dog registered for classes Spring & Summer 2026)
3) Individuals who have volunteered at ODTC Nose Work/AKC Scent Work events during the past 12 months.
4) Past students who “graduated” from NW3 to Elite and are no longer able to take lessons at Oriole.
ONE working dog per handler per day.
