Agility Seminars with Rebecca Thrift on Nov 25-26, 2023

Oriole is hosting 4 seminars presented by Rebecca Thrift.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2023– 8 working slots per seminar, limited auditors

9:00 am-12:30 pm • Commitment Issues? Your Dog, Not You!

Running agility is not as easy as people think and learning to trust your training is vital to success! Today’s courses require the ability to send your dog to an obstacle and move to the next one. This, however, is not a natural behavior for our dogs, so we must work hard to train this skill! This seminar will focus on jumps and tunnel commitment with competing handler motion!  We will work on the first basic training steps to teach opposing motion to young and beginner dogs with exercises and drills.  Also, emphasis will be on sending your dogs ahead of you down a line of jumps, and basic drills to start your training for a dog that drives ahead of you.  Jumps and tunnels only.  Suitable for young dogs, novice dogs and open dogs that may not have started training yet on how to teach their dogs what we want with opposing motion.

1:30 pm-5:00 pm  Lines Not Obstacles

The OneMind Dogs method doesn’t focus on obstacles! Actually, it’s the opposite – you focus on handling your dog on running lines, rather than running from one obstacle to another. This helps your dog to move through an agility course more easily as you help anticipate what’s coming next. Learn everything about this concept and how to incorporate it within your team for more clear rounds and improved overall communication. This seminar will be for dogs that are currently competing. It will have Novice, Open and Masters type challenges.  We can break down the challenges for each level so that the concept of seeing lines on courses, rather than individual obstacles can be comprehended and implemented when walking courses. Jumps, tunnels and contacts will be seen on these courses.
