Oriole Dog Training Club
SEMINAR
TRAINING WEAVE POLES
Tuesday, June 19, 6:30pm-8:30pm
ODTC Agility Ring
Learn how the best handlers teach weave poles from the start. World team member, nationals finalist and Incredible Dog Challenge 30-Weave finalist Terry Herman will explain the stages of weave pole training using channels with wires. Janet Gauntt, agility judge and nationals finalist with dogs who regularly rank in the top-10 nationally will demonstrate 2 by 2 weave training. This is an excellent opportunity for new handlers to learn the process of training weaves, or for handlers with weave pole issues to reevaluate training methods.
The evening will be for handlers only (no dogs unless invited for demo).
Deadline to register is Saturday, June 16. A minimum of 6 handlers is required.
Cost: Non-Members $10, Training Members $5, Contributing Members are FREE
Nose Work Demo for Scout Troop #615
On August 30, 2017, three Oriole members attended a meeting of Scout troop #615 located at the Church of the Resurrection/ Saint Paul’s School in Ellicott City, Maryland. The topic was nose work and training of nose work search dogs. Linda Grskovich gave a brief talk about training and the sport; she then demonstrated how a dog starts training with Laska, her 8 month old Doberman Pinscher.
Member Helena Dahlen demonstrated a dog working scent with her Flat Coated retriever, Porter. Porter did 3 complex searches for the group. Donald Grskovich then did a demonstration with his Doberman, Broker. Broker did a complex search of 6 hides and searched the entire school cafeteria. The boy scouts had lots of good questions and enjoyed the visits from the three dogs.
