February Agility Seminars

Come and Sit. Stay and Play.
Come and Sit. Stay and Play.

Start your New Year in Agility off on the right foot & paw.  Oriole will be hosting two seminars on Valentine’s Weekend (2/14 &15/2015) that will help you and your dog to improve Discrimination and Distance and Weave Pole performance.

On Saturday, February 14, 2015 Jean Wilkins will help you improve you dogs’ discrimination and distance handling skills  during her seminar.  Jean has been a top NADAC competitor and judge.  She has been a finalist at numerous NADAC championships and holds many advanced titles on multiple dogs in NADAC, USDAA and AKC.
On Sunday, February 15, 2015 Susan Heckelman will help you learn to improve your dog’s weave pole performance during her seminar .  Susan uses the Mary Ellen Barry 2×2 Method.  This method helps train new dogs on how to weave.  It also improves experienced dogs’ skills for better entries and speed when performing weave poles.  Susan has been competing in agility since 1999 and has been a finalist in the USDAA Cynosports World Games, Steeplechase and Grand Prix, as well as AKC Agility Nationals.  Susan is currently an instructor at DogStar Productions, LLC.

Flyers and registration forms are here on the Oriole website and in the building.  If you have any questions, please e-mail Sheila Mehring at odtcseminars@aol.com

January Barn Hunt Fun Match Upgraded

BHA-LogoUpdate from match secretary, Charlene Schilling:

Due to overwhelming demand, we added a second judge and increased the limit to 100 for Oriole’s first Barn Hunt Fun Test on Sunday, January 4th, in Severn, MD.

We’re quickly approaching this new limit, so if you want to experience Barn Hunting, you may want to postmark an entry by tomorrow, December 29th (this is not the same as putting it in a mailbox, where it may not get picked up for a day or two). Note that late entries cost $3 more per run.

If we do not fill the trial from entries postmarked by tomorrow, Day of Show entries will be taken from 8:30 am to 9 am, until we reach the limit.

To help dogs who are new to the sport, we added a short “meet ‘n greet” with the rats.  It is only available for dogs pre-entered in the Instinct class, and it starts at 8:15 am. During the “meet ‘n greet,” dogs will be able to see and smell a rat (protected in a cage). This will give you a chance to reward your dog (praise and/or food) for showing interest in the rat.

A Barn Hunt registration number is NOT required for Fun Tests. The premium is available at:

January Barn Hunt Fun Match Update

BHA-LogoAn update from match secretary Char (odtcbhsec@gmail.com) and match chairman Jan (agilelab@juno.com):

Oriole’s Barn Hunt Fun Match is approximately 70% full already. If you are planning to enter, please do so quickly. We have decided to do a rat “Meet ‘n Greet” (probably around 8:15 a.m.) for dogs that are entered in instinct (i.e., new to the sport).

We also are exploring bringing in a second judge to accommodate additional runs.

Pre-entries postmarked by 22 Dec cost $8 for instinct and $10 for the other classes (novice, open, senior, and master). Late entries postmarked 23 Dec through 29 Dec cost $11 for instinct and $13 for the other classes. Day of Show entries will be accepted from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, and cost the same as late entries.

You do NOT need a Barn Hunt registration number to participate. Also, you can enter BOTH instinct and novice in the trial (instinct can’t be combined with any other class).

Come out and try it, or come to just check out a cool new sport!  Hope to see you there 🙂

We Made It !

We completed the move to our new location on Sunday, Nov 23rd!  Here’s a first look at the sports field set up for shared agility and obedience usage on a typical training night 🙂
